Date: Jan 29, 2020 @ 09:10 AM

DLA Piper announced that Matthew Alshouse has joined the firm’s Real Estate practice as a partner in the Chicago office.

Alshouse’s practice focuses on commercial real estate acquisitions, dispositions and financing, primarily on behalf of private equity clients around the world. In recent years, he has developed a particular focus on representing South Korean institutional investors in the United States real estate acquisition and lending markets. He has counseled domestic and foreign private equity fund and hedge funds; investor consortia; developers; asset-based and project lenders; and REITs on a broad range of property acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures, and mortgage and mezzanine loans. Alshouse also has extensive experience representing sponsors in subscription-based credit facilities, and has counseled large private equity funds in secondary market portfolio acquisitions and leverage.

“Matt has a sophisticated global practice that is well-suited to our global real estate platform and the needs of our clients,” said John Sullivan, global co-chair and US chair of DLA Piper's Real Estate practice. “His experience advising on a wide range of transactions, including those emanating out of Asia and South Korea, will allow us to continue to provide best-in-class legal services to our real estate clients around the world. We are delighted to have him join our group.”

“Matt's strong reputation and deep understanding of the needs of a broad array of real estate clients will be a tremendous addition to our real estate practice in Chicago and globally, complementing our already recognized top-tier real estate transactional and finance practice,” said Jesse Criz, co-managing partner of the firm’s Chicago office. “We are thrilled to welcome him to DLA Piper.”

Alshouse, who joins from Baker McKenzie, received his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School and his A.B. from Duke University.
