Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) announced the appointment of Nicholas DeLuca as a Managing Director in the Mass Torts practice within its Disputes and Investigations (DI) group. Mr. DeLuca specializes in the application of analytics and modeling to estimate current and future risks associated with product liability, mass toxic and mass disaster torts and Multidistrict Litigations (MDL).
During his more than two-decade career, Mr. DeLuca has been retained by law firm, compliance, and office of general counsel clients to assess liability across the full spectrum of mass tort claims, including asbestos, talc, ground water contamination, and child sexual abuse. He has also administered settlement funds and developed algorithms used to compensate hundreds of thousands of asbestos personal injury trust claimants.
Jerry Dent, Managing Director and North America Practice Leader of A&M’s Disputes and Investigations group underscored the firm’s commitment to its Mass Torts offering as demonstrated by the recent appointment of Timothy Raab, Managing Director and A&M Mass Torts Practice Leader. “Adding Nicholas to our team represents the next building block of strategic growth for DI’s Mass Torts services. His hire boosts our ability to solve client problems amidst a complex regulatory environment and economic volatility. His expertise will further our goal of helping clients turn complexity into opportunity by maximizing value and driving change.”
Mr. DeLuca’s deep knowledge of economic analysis and forecasting expands DI’s ability to resolve cases ranging from product liability to toxic pollution and natural disasters. He advises clients on the design and implementation of resolution programs to equitably compensate individuals and companies impacted by natural disasters and other mass disaster torts. Consistent with A&M’s integrated platform, Mr. DeLuca will augment the firm’s support of private equity firms and hedge funds on valuing potential mass tort liabilities in the context of M&A transactions across the deal lifecycle.
Before joining A&M, Mr. DeLuca spent six years with the Mass Torts practice at Ankura Consulting Group, where he most recently served as Senior Managing Director. Before that, he served as Managing Director at ARPC, a boutique economic consulting firm specializing in mass torts which was acquired by Ankura. Previously, he was consultant with Global Insight (now IHS Markit), an economics forecasting company.
Mr. Raab, said, “Nicholas’ joining advances our ability to help attorneys, companies, special masters, and other parties in bankruptcy cases and builds on our work in some of the earliest mass tort matters including asbestos, tobacco and breast implant litigation. His experience estimating current and future mass tort liabilities will add value for clients. His career trajectory embodies A&M’s heritage of operational excellence and aligns with our integrated model and results-oriented approach.”
Mr. DeLuca earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Pittsburgh and an MBA from Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business.
