Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) announced the hire of Phoenix-based Steven Anthony as a Managing Director within its Private Equity Performance Improvement (PEPI) practice. Anthony, who will work directly with PEPI’s recently expanded Software, Technology & Services (STS) group, brings a unique combination of software and information infrastructure expertise to help clients mitigate technology practice costs while building out high-tech enabled products and services.
With more than 30 years of experience spanning all stages of the M&A process, Anthony has spearheaded multiple initiatives for achieving clients’ value creation and business transformation goals. Specifically, he advises on product due diligence, product strategy development, software development life cycle (SDLC)/Agile and R&D optimization, process performance improvement and product integration/separation.

Anthony has headed numerous comprehensive transformation programs. For a global internet company’s data privacy and security products, he led the team that developed an objectives and key results (OKR) product management and roadmap process for use across all external facing product lines. For a governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) market leader, he directed the team that developed the long-term product strategy resulting in an optimized product portfolio along with R&D organization alignment that drove product portfolio synergies at a substantially lower cost basis. Additionally, Anthony led the transformation team that turned a pure play fulfillment company into a product technology company which doubled its market valuation.

Prior to joining A&M, Anthony served as the leader of KPMG’s Product Technology practice and as a Director at AlixPartners. He has also held leadership positions with industry and consulting companies, including Chief Information Officer (CIO) for Charles River Associates. At that firm, he led a multiyear program that developed software and services for commodities trading transformation. As CIO and Head of Business Optimization at Blackboard, a leading global EdTech company, Anthony led the analysis and delivery of a multiyear project yielding EBITDA improvements of $40+ million.
Anthony earned a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems from the University of Massachusetts-Lowell. He holds advanced management and leadership certifications from INSEAD and Stanford University.
