Date: May 09, 2024 @ 07:38 AM

Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) Health Industry Group appointed Mark Sugrue as a Senior Director in its Health System practice. Sugrue’s hiring marks the next milestone of the Healthcare Industry Group’s growth strategy, and building on the momentum of recent appointments, including Chris George as Managing Director and leader of the Health System Practice, and Managing Director, Brian Geissler. A&M Healthcare Industry Group’s strategic talent expansion aligns with A&M’s focus on maximizing value and supporting transformation for clients amidst a continuously evolving healthcare landscape.

Sugrue has focused on advising clients on transformation initiatives bridging the gap between clinical and technology. Some of these initiatives include patient contact center optimization, new facility merger and acquisition projects, emergency department throughput, care model redesign and enterprise-wide performance improvement efforts. Prior to joining A&M, Sugrue served as a Managing Director at FTI Consulting. In that role, he co-led the digital health solution offering focused on the development, adoption and optimization of leading edge, innovative technologies.

George said, “Mark’s varied experience and perspective, alongside his healthcare industry knowledge will help clients balance the competing forces of operational demands and growth. His clinical experience coupled with A&M’s ability to drive operational excellence, will further allow us to help our clients achieve profitable transformation.”

Sugrue has previously served as the Chief Nursing Informatics Officer (CNIO) and Associate Chief Nursing Officer for a professional practice at the UMass Memorial Medical Center where he led the successful implementation of a $700 million electronic health record. He has also served as Managing Director for Clinical Delivery and Informatics Solutions at Commonwealth Medicine, leading strategic and tactical operations and consulting services provided to public health enterprises in Massachusetts and across the U.S. Earlier, Sugrue served as Lahey Hospital and Medical Center’s first CNIO.

Sugrue was awarded a 2020 Citation for Outstanding Performance by the Governor of Massachusetts for Incident Command Leadership for his emergency COVID-19 response at the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home.

Martin McGahan, Managing Director and Head of A&M’s Healthcare Industry Group said, “We continue to respond to our clients’ needs for navigating the demands of the healthcare market by attracting world-class talent and leadership. Mark brings a breadth of clinical operations, IT and revenue cycle expertise across academic medical centers, acute care hospitals, medical groups, and private equity-backed healthcare organizations. His experience further builds our network of senior healthcare operators advising clients on solving complex problems to achieve sustainable goals."

Sugrue earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and psychology from the University of Massachusetts, Boston, and a bachelor’s degree in nursing science and master’s degree in nursing leadership from Regis College. Sugrue currently serves as a member of the Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Board of Directors and is the past Chair of the HIMSS America’s Advisory Board.
