Retired Rear Admiral Mark Heinrich, U.S. Navy, has joined global professional services firm Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) as a managing director based in New York.

Admiral Heinrich brings more than 30 years of leadership experience in operations, logistics, and supply chain management. In his final assignment in the Navy, he served as the CEO of Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) and the 46th Chief of Supply Corps, where he led the Navy’s 25,000 man global supply chain practice. His background in controlling costs, leading large scale ERP system implementations, managing NAVSUP’s seven billion dollar operating budget and expertise in the energy sector will benefit several A&M business units.

In addition to his capstone assignment as Commander of NAVSUP and the 46th Chief of Supply Corps, Heinrich commanded the Defense Logistics Agency’s aviation center of excellence in Richmond, Virginia, and served as the Chief Operating Officer of the Defense Logistics Agency in Fort Belvoir, Virginia.  He also commanded the NAVSUP Global Logistics Support Command, which had operational logistics support responsibilities to the Navy around the world.  

In 2008, Heinrich deployed to the Middle East as Director of the United States Central Command’s Deployment and Distribution Operations Center in Kuwait, where he applied deployment and distribution expertise to plan and execute joint and combined force military operations. 

His additional overseas tours include leadership of a deep-water fuel depot in Subic Bay in the Republic of the Philippines. His sea tours included duties as assistant supply officer of USS Kinkaid (DD-965), and supply officer of USS Gridley (CG-21) and USS Constellation (CV-64) – all of which saw extensive deployments to the Western Pacific and Southeast Asia.  He also has experience leading the Navy’s logistics humanitarian assistance and disaster relief efforts, including responses to the earthquake in Haiti, the tidal wave in Indonesia, an oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, and the earthquake, tsunami and subsequent nuclear emergency in Japan. 

A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis with a bachelor’s degree in engineering, Heinrich also holds a MBA from the University of Kansas, as well as a Master of Science in Petroleum Management.  In 2012, he was inducted into the University of Kansas School of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering Hall of Fame.  He also attended the Kellogg Graduate School of Management's Advanced Executive program.
