Leading global professional services firm Alvarez & Marsal is expanding its North American Commercial Restructuring practice with the addition of veteran practitioner Dan Scouler, who joins as a Managing Director in Los Angeles.
Scouler brings four decades of experience spanning bankruptcy reorganization, out-of-court restructuring, and crisis and interim management. He has advised a broad spectrum of clients, and their stakeholders, across multiple industries, including natural resources, retail, manufacturing, distribution, sub-prime lending, entertainment and technology. In addition, he has served as an expert witness on insolvency and reorganization matters, and has provided testimony on such issues as reorganization plan feasibility, business plan viability, valuations and the reasonableness of select transactions.

Scouler has spearheaded notable, industry-award winning turnaround and restructuring work on behalf of such clients as Contessa Premium Foods, the Oscar-winning animation studio Rhythm & Hues, and Hot Dog on a Stick, a quick-service restaurant chain. He has served as Interim CEO of WW Holdings; Interim CFO of NUI Corporation; and Chief Restructuring Officer (CRO) of Communication Dynamics, Inc., Wherehouse Entertainment, Mortgage Lenders Network and Universal Building Products. He was also Financial Advisor to the United Steelworkers in the Wheeling Pittsburgh bankruptcy, and the senior lenders of Mercury Finance, Safety Kleen and Asyst Technology.
Prior to joining A&M, Scouler served as founder and CEO of Scouler & Company, a boutique turnaround and restructuring firm headquartered in Los Angeles. He was also a Senior Managing Director at FTI Corporate Recovery, the crisis management subsidiary of FTI Consulting, Inc.
Scouler holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Western Ontario, Richard Ivey School of Business. He is a Canadian Chartered Accountant.
