Piper Jaffray Companies, a leading investment bank and asset management firm, announced the addition of Richard Shinder as a managing director focused on financial restructuring and capital advisory. He will help lead Piper Jaffray restructuring advisory efforts from the firm’s New York office and brings more than 20 years of industry experience.
Most recently, Shinder was a managing director at TPG Specialty Lending, where he was responsible for the origination and execution of special situation direct corporate investments. Shinder was previously a partner at Perella Weinberg Partners in its restructuring advisory group, focused on financial restructuring, capital raising and strategic advisory engagements. His assignments included Barneys New York, Re/Max Inc., Loehmann’s and Accuride Corp., among others. Prior to Perella, Shinder held several senior-level positions at Goldman Sachs, Merrill Lynch and in the Blackstone Group’s restructuring and reorganization group.
“Given Rich’s lengthy and successful track record as a senior advisor to companies undergoing financial transition, we are thrilled that he will partner with Peter Schwab and Teri Stratton as we expand our financial restructuring practice,” said Ted Christianson, head of the Piper Jaffray capital advisory group. “He brings deep expertise and relationships that will be highly additive to our increasingly active financial restructuring group, in addition to our debt capital markets and private placement practices—all of which have experienced significant growth and momentum.”
“Rich is an outstanding addition to our growing platform. With our expanded presence in the energy and financial sectors, our clients will be well-served as we build out our product advisory and execution capabilities,” said Scott LaRue, global co-head of investment banking and capital markets for Piper Jaffray.
