May 31, 2013, 07:14 AM

Global professional services firm Alvarez & Marsal has expanded its Healthcare Industry Group with the addition of Bert Amison, who joins as a managing director in Dallas.

With more than 20 years of experience in the healthcare industry, Amison specializes in revenue cycle operations, regulatory compliance, the implications of ICD-10, and strategic planning. His primary area of concentration is in assisting hospital organizations with the integration of regulatory compliance and business processes, particularly within the clinical documentation improvement (CDI) space.

“Healthcare providers are focusing on clinical documentation improvement as it has become increasingly critical in connection with reimbursement, audit compliance and patient care outcomes,” said Guy Sansone, head of A&M Healthcare Industry Group. “Bert’s expertise in this area will further enhance our revenue-cycle services offering to clients, particularly as the implementation of ICD-10 approaches.”

Prior to joining A&M, Amison was a managing director in KPMG’s Healthcare Advisory practice, and led KPMG’s CDI practice whereby he assisted healthcare providers, including large multi-facility systems with documentation compliance regarding CMS rules and regulations. He has implemented several CDI programs across the country and has assisted more than 70 hospitals with some component of their CDI program. In addition, he has provided clients with compliance program assistance; independent review organization (IRO); contract compliance audits; business office improvement and related process reporting engagements; systems implementations; and systems risk assessments.

Previously, he worked for an international accounting and consulting firm exclusively serving healthcare clients, as well as a healthcare IT systems vendor. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss. He is a member of the Health Care Compliance Association (HCCA), Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) and the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics (SCCE).
