Mayer Brown announced that Ryan Suda has joined the firm’s global Banking & Finance practice and Structured Finance group as a partner in New York. Suda joins from Freshfields.

Paul Jorissen, a co-leader of Mayer Brown’s global Banking & Finance practice, said, “Ryan is an experienced and well-regarded structured finance lawyer, noted for his handling of CLO matters for both arrangers and managers. His arrival allows us to enhance our capabilities to help clients take advantage of the revitalized CLO market and adapt to the evolving securitization regulatory environment. Ryan’s addition also builds on our strategy to expand the firm’s many finance-oriented legal services we offer.”

Suda advises financial institutions, asset managers, private equity funds and hedge funds in structured finance transactions and other complex financings. He focuses in particular on securitizations of institutional leveraged loans, known as collateralized loan obligations (CLOs). In addition, he advises clients on regulatory issues in relation to securities laws, the US risk retention regulations and the Volcker Rule, and has experience in derivatives, secured and unsecured credit facilities, private placements, asset finance and acquisition finance.

“Mayer Brown’s premier Structured Finance practice, deeply embedded relationships with leading US financial institutions and extensive global network spanning major financial markets will provide a robust platform for serving clients and growing my practice,” said Mr. Suda. “My arrival reinforces the firm’s commitment to the strategic expansion of its finance capabilities and New York presence, and I am excited to contribute to that development.”

“Ryan’s success in building a leading CLO and structured finance practice will augment the firm’s finance offerings to both our bank and non-bank clients in New York and beyond,” added Richard A. Spehr, the partner-in-charge of Mayer Brown’s New York office. “His addition reflects our focus on growing our New York office with top-tier lawyers, continuing our expansion in areas such as leveraged finance, fund finance, fund formation, derivatives and structured products.”

Suda holds a JD, magna cum laude, from New York University School of Law, and a BA, summa cum laude, from New York University College of Arts and Science.
