The March 2018 annual bankruptcy filings totaled 779,828, compared with 794,492 cases in the previous year, according to the statistics.
There were 23,106 business filings overthe past 12 months of which 7,735 were Chapter 11 filings. That's compared to 23,591 business filings in 2017 and 31,671 in 2014.
A national wave of bankruptcies that began in 2008 reached a peak in the year ending September 2010, when nearly 1.6 million bankruptcies were filed.
