Omar Mirza, vice president, Ernst & Young Capital Advisors in New York, was named global chair of the 2013 Turnaround Management Association NextGen Committee. Kelly McDonald, an associate in the Business Finance & Restructuring Department of Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP in Dallas, has been selected as vice chair.
Mirza leads the 2013 TMA NextGen Committee as global chair, after serving as vice chair in 2012. He has been a director of TMA New York Chapter since 2010 and was chair of TMA New York Chapter’s NextGen Committee in 2011 and 2012. He previously served on the TMA Education Oversight Committee in 2011 and 2012 and was chair of the 2011 TMA Annual Convention.
Recognized with the U.S. 40 Under 40 Award by the M&A Advisor, Mirza focuses on financial restructuring, distressed M&A and recapitalizations. Mirza has over 12 years of industry experience in investment banking, financial restructuring and distressed M&A, as both a financial adviser and attorney. During his career, he has been involved in global transactions across many sectors including financial services, funds management, structured finance, real estate, retail, manufacturing, transport, viticulture, and government.
McDonald served as membership chair of the 2012 TMA Global NextGen Committee, is a board member of the TMA Dallas Ft. Worth Chapter, and is a co-chair of the TMA Dallas/Ft. Worth NextGen Committee. She is also a member of the TMA Global Education Oversight Committee that is designing and implementing a new TMA education system.
McDonald represents debtors, creditors, acquirers of distressed assets, and other parties in interest in complex Chapter 11 reorganizations and out-of-court workouts. Her debtor representations have included restructurings in industries as diverse as commercial and residential building materials, automotive parts, oil and gas, and most recently, two professional sports teams and an airline.
The TMA NextGen program provides turnaround and corporate restructuring professionals with networking and educational opportunities tailored to those in the early stages of their career. The TMA NextGen Committee is comprised of young professional leaders from TMA chapters throughout North America. Forty of those leaders gathered in December for the inaugural 2012 TMA NextGen Leadership Meeting, which Mirza and McDonald helped organize, along with 2012 TMA NextGen Committee Chair Nicholas Campbell, Alvarez & Marsal, Atlanta.
