The Turnaround Management Association will celebrate the successful achievements of three TMA chapters during an awards luncheon at The 2013 TMA Senate taking place May 14-16 at the JW Marriott Chicago in Chicago.
Each year, TMA recognizes chapters that distinguish themselves in delivering excellent education, networking, and community service. The 2012 winners are:
Philadelphia Chapter: 2012 Chapter of the Year
The chapter celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2012 and reached a milestone of 312 members, making it the seventh largest chapter globally. Enhanced chapter programming attracted 1,078 attendees to eight programs, compared to only 405 attendees to five programs in 2011. To increase membership diversity, the chapter focused on NextGen programming and increased its NextGen membership from six to 46 members. The chapter also increased educational collaboration with trade associations and continued successful joint events with the Commercial Finance Association, Association for Corporate Growth, New York Institute of Credit, Pennsylvania Bar Association, and the TMA New Jersey and Chesapeake Chapters. Keeping up its commitment to charity, the chapter raised over $13,400 for the Make-A-Wish foundation, and, with the help of the New Jersey and Chesapeake Chapters, raised over $3,000 for the Atlantic City Rescue Mission during the Mid-Atlantic Regional Symposium.

New York City Chapter: 2012 Most Improved Chapter of the Year
The TMA New York City Chapter has experienced strong membership growth in recent years and in 2012, surpassed 1,000 members on its way to becoming TMA’s largest chapter worldwide. Much of the increase can be attributed to the work of the chapter’s Women’s Division and NextGen Committee. Events targeted specifically at young professionals have been instrumental in attracting new, young members and revitalizing the chapter. Of the chapter’s 17 events in 2012, seven were educational, six were for NextGen members, and three were hosted by the Women’s Division. Community service initiatives included the chapter’s annual student paper competition for New York University and Columbia University MBA programs, as well as donations to assist in Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts.

Finland Chapter: 2012 International Chapter of the Year
The TMA Finland Chapter has experienced success in retaining and renewing its membership in recent years. This stems from successful educational events and the Turnaround Management Consultant (TMC) certification program. More than 150 professionals attended chapter events in 2012. Events included educational programs focused on extensive case studies, regional events, joint events, and seminars featuring member authors. To promote networking, the chapter established new member networking receptions, launched a LinkedIn page, and created a hotline and helpline service for entrepreneurs seeking turnaround advice. The pro bono hotline allows professionals to gain first hand advice and consultation from members.
