B. Riley Securities Announces Key Additons, Promotions to Equity Research Division

B. Riley Securities announced the addition of David Bain, Matthew Howlett and Kalpit Patel to its award-winning equity research division. The firm also announced the promotions of Marc Wiesenberger to Senior Analyst and Daniel Day to Analyst.

B. Riley is a leading provider of proprietary small-cap industry research. The firm covers more than 400 companies with an emphasis on those that are under-followed or misunderstood by Wall Street. Nearly 20% of the firm’s research analysts were recognized as Top 100 Wall Street Analysts of 2020 by TipRanks.

David Bain, JD, MBA joins as a Senior Research Analyst based out of Los Angeles. Bain brings over 20 years of experience covering the gaming, leisure and lifestyle sector. He joins B. Riley from ROTH Capital Partners and previously worked in the equity research departments of Sterne Agee (a Stifel company), Merriman Curhan Ford & Co., and Seidler Companies. Prior to his career on Wall Street, Bain was a Los Angeles based entertainment attorney. He holds a JD in Corporate Law from Loyola Law School, an MBA from Pepperdine University, and a BA from UCLA.

Matthew Howlett joins as a Senior Research Analyst based in New York. Howlett brings over 15 years of experience covering the financial services sector. He was previously with Nomura and with Wolfe Research, a research boutique and affiliated broker dealer, and has worked at UBS and Macquarie Group. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Finance and Financial Management Services from Providence College.

Kalpit Patel, MBA joins as a Healthcare Research Analyst based in New York, specializing in emerging biotech companies with a focus on oncology and rare diseases. He was previously a director within the biotech equity research team at Oppenheimer & Co. Prior to his career in finance, Patel practiced as a pharmacist after earning his PharmD degree from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. He holds an MBA in Finance and Economics from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Marc Wiesenberger, CFA was promoted to Senior Research Analyst. He joined B. Riley Securities’ Discovery Group in 2017 and was named a TipRanks Top 100 Wall Street Analyst for 2020 based on stock selection performance. Wiesenberger was previously a senior consultant with FTI Consulting’s valuation and financial advisory practice. He holds an MBA from Pepperdine Graziadio Business School and a BA in Economics from the University of Arizona. He is based in Los Angeles.

Daniel Day, CFA was promoted to Research Analyst and will transition his coverage focus to media and communications. In his prior role as a Senior Research Associate, Day was primarily focused on the metals and mining industry, and shipping container companies. He joined B. Riley in 2019 from Cambridge Associates and holds a master’s degree in International Affairs from American University and a BA in Political Science from La Salle University. Day is based in New York.
