Intrepid Investment Bankers (Intrepid), a leading middle-market investment bank and subsidiary of MUFG Union Bank, announced that Steven Nelson joined the firm as Managing Director and Head of Financial Sponsor Coverage. He brings more than 15 years of experience originating, managing, and executing M&A transactions and maintains strong relationships with financial sponsors across the United States.
Over the past decade, he has advised on numerous M&A transactions totaling more than $5 billion in aggregate value, including the sale of Open Systems International, Inc. to Emerson; the sale of Pacur, LLC to Gryphon Investors; and the sale of Windsor Fashions to Sun Capital.
“Financial sponsors are a very significant part of our business. We have developed deep relationships within the sponsor community over the past several decades. The addition of Steve Nelson to our team will expand and enhance our coverage and help us serve our valued relationships with better access to deal flow, proprietary content, and access to our industry bankers. Steve is a highly respected banker in the private equity community, and he brings a wealth of relationships. He started his investment banking career 15 years ago with many of the partners at Intrepid, and we are thrilled to see him rejoin us to help accelerate our growth,” said Ed Bagdasarian, Chief Executive Officer of Intrepid.
“Since its inception, Intrepid has built on its founders’ 40-year legacy as one of the leading middle-market M&A advisors in the country,” says Nelson. “I am thrilled to lead this new coverage effort to deliver our firm’s industry expertise, significant deal flow, and proprietary content and ideas to leading middle-market private equity firms. I was drawn to Intrepid’s legacy of success and culture of excellence.”
Steven’s extensive experience includes serving as a Director at Wells Fargo Corporate & Investment Banking, leading the firm’s middle-market M&A effort for building products, packaging, forest products, and industrial technology. He began his investment banking career at Barrington Associates, a specialty investment bank and one of the most respected middle-market M&A advisory firms in the United States. He attended Amherst College and received his bachelor’s in law, jurisprudence, and social thought.
