Alvarez & Marsal Bolsters Private Equity Performance Improvement Supply Chain Expertise

April 22, 2022, 07:20 AM

Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) appointed Randy Fike, as a Managing Director with its Private Equity Performance Improvement (PEPI) practice. Fike’s joining reinforces A&M’s ability to help private equity (PE) clients protect their investment thesis, on revenue growth and margins, amidst significant post-COVID supply chain disruptions.

Fike brings more than 30 years of experience implementing organizations’ transformation initiatives to A&M. He will focus on solving for the complex supply chain disruption, resiliency and recovery issues facing private equity firms seeking to unlock value.

Fike’s expertise compliments the material cost saving, organizational/operational effectiveness and operational due diligence knowledge of PEPI Senior Directors Allen Fujimoto and David Tait, who recently joined the Procurement and Sourcing group and will work alongside him. In addition to their combined technical expertise, the trio has extensive industrial manufacturing, consumer product goods and healthcare and life sciences sector experience.

Christopher Kulp, a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal’s Private Equity Performance Improvement practice and Leader of the firm’s Procurement and Sourcing group, said, “Emerging from COVID, a perfect storm of record deal flow and high multiples is brewing. Rising inflation, as noted in our Risk, Reality and Reward: A Navigation Playbook, coupled with supply chain disruptions will impact input material flow, end-product delivery capabilities and ultimately private equity investment theses. Randy’s, Allen’s and David’s individual and collective strengths will help clients maximize value against this widely disruptive backdrop that many portfolio companies have never before experienced.”

"Randy, Allen and David represent our on-going investment in supply chain expertise across the US and Canada. This capabilities expansion extends our offering to help PE clients combat potential revenue decreases and margin erosion resulting from volatility and insufficient supply chain disruption strategies,” said Nick Alvarez, Managing Director and National Practice Leader of Alvarez & Marsal’s Private Equity Performance Improvement practice. “Their backgrounds align with our results-driven approach for meeting private equity’s need to protect value, maximize growth and drive change.”

Fike’s notable assignments include the General Motors bankruptcy, BP oil spill and PG&E bankruptcy. He is recognized for building procurement resiliency and supply chains to address inflationary cost pressures and supply disruption.

Prior to joining A&M, Fike held senior roles with the International Paper Company and Lexmark Internationals. He also held Managing Director and Senior Director roles at KPMG and AlixPartners, respectively. Previously, Fike worked in logistics while serving in the United States Marine Corps.

Fike earned a BBA degree in accounting (magna cum laude) from the University of Washington, and a master’s degree in engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is certified in production inventory, integrated resource and purchasing management. Fike has been published in the Harvard Business Review Supply Chain Strategy and MIT Supply Chain Newsletter.
