Carl Marks Advisors announced that Stephen Funnell has been promoted to Vice President, while Matthew Dowell has joined the firm, also as Vice President.

Funnell joined Carl Marks Advisors in 2022, bringing deep experience providing financial and operational advisory services to distressed companies focusing on analysis, valuation, and liquidations. Funnell works closely with clients spanning a broad range of industries, including manufacturers, retailers, consumer products companies, and oil and gas firms, working with owners, management teams, private equity groups, lenders, and investors.

Dowell is a skilled professional with broad financial advisory experience focusing on liability management transactions across a variety of industries, including oil and gas, industrials, retail, transportation, telecommunications, and healthcare. Before joining Carl Marks Advisors, he was a restructuring investment banking associate at Guggenheim Partners.

In addition to the promotion of Funnell and additional of Dowell, Carl Marks Advisors also announced hiring two analysts, Alan Gutman and Nicholas Pizzulli, to the company’s growing M&A practice. Gutman holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Rutgers University and Pizzulli holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance from The George Washington University.
