Alvarez & Marsal appointed Matthew Goldberg as a Managing Director and U.S. co-leader, of the firm’s Alternative Investments Services group, alongside Managing Director and Global Practice Leader, Mark McMahon. Mr. Goldberg’s arrival continues the firm’s investment in top-tier senior valuation professionals to support the market’s demand for highly specialized portfolio valuation expertise to mitigate risk and maximize opportunities.
Goldberg advises clients on the valuation and analysis of equity and credit investments, and financial instruments. He works across multiple industries, including life sciences, technology, retail, financial services, industrial and infrastructure, focused on assisting management in strategic planning, performing projects for financial reporting and tax reporting and providing advisory services related to mergers and acquisitions. He also has experience with buy- and sell-side transactions, investment banking, pre-acquisition due diligence, and business interruption analyses.

Recognized for his valuation expertise of investments for global investments funds and operating companies, Goldberg leverages a data-driven approach to address complex structures. He specializes in providing financial reporting, tax reporting, transaction opinions, restructuring, litigation and management planning valuation advisory.
Prior to joining A&M, Goldberg led BDO’s US Complex Securities Valuation Practice as well as co-led the firm’s Global Financial Instrument Valuation group. Previously, he served in a Big Four Firm’s Transaction Advisory Services Practice providing valuation services.
Goldberg earned a BS from Colorado State University, and an MBA from the Thunderbird School of Global Management. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and on the AICPA’s Financial Instrument Advisory Committee.
