Alvarez & Marsal Appoints Emerson as a Private Equity Performance Improvement Group Managing Director

March 27, 2025, 08:10 AM

Alvarez & Marsal announced the appointment of Mark Emerson as a Private Equity Performance Improvement (PEPI) group Managing Director. His joining demonstrates the firm’s continued commitment to deliver best-in-class finance-driven transformation strategies that accelerate value creation across every stage of the PE lifecycle.

Emerson’s hire further solidifies A&M’s established position as a leading CFO Services advisor trusted by PE firms to help portfolio companies unlock value. He brings 25 years of transaction finance strategy, finance operating model design and process optimization experience; along with expertise spanning across chemicals, life sciences, industrial products, software, private equity and professional services; he will work alongside leading CFOs and PE sponsors to optimize financial and operational performance.

Nick Alvarez, Managing Director and National Practice Leader of A&M’s Private Equity Performance Improvement Group, stated, “In today’s PE market, there’s no room for trial and error. Private equity sponsors and CFOs don’t need new players promising to ‘fill a gap’—they need trusted partners with a proven track record of delivering value under pressure. At A&M, we don’t just talk about CFO-led performance improvement; we’ve been defining it for decades.”

Emerson’s hire strengthens A&M’s ability to:

  • Stand-up finance functions from the ground up for PE-backed portfolio companies.
  • Execute complex carve-outs from larger companies that have established accounting and finance capabilities which need to be supplanted
  • Integrate disparate companies with seamless finance and accounting function transition.
  • Design finance operating models to support the needs and objectives of PE-backed  companies.

Richard Jenkins, Managing Director and Leader of the CFO Services practice, added, “The office of the CFO isn’t just a back-office function—it’s the nerve center of value creation. Our clients don’t have time for market experiments; they need partners who have been in the trenches, delivering results through market cycles, economic shifts, and industry disruptions. Mark’s appointment represents the latest level of our rising ‘tower of talent’ in response to these shifting market dynamics. His hire furthers our ability to support clients across the investment lifecycle -- from pre-close diligence to exit strategy execution—equipping them with the right digital tools, data-driven insights, and finance strategies to achieve efficiency and sustainable growth.”

Reflecting on his new role, Emerson noted, “Transformation starts at the CFO’s office, but it doesn’t happen with theory—it happens with execution. Unlike firms just entering new markets, A&M is already deeply embedded across the global PE ecosystem, offering hands-on expertise tailored to regional and sector-specific needs and  delivering real, measurable impact. The firm’s deeply integrated approach—combining accounting expertise, strategic finance, liquidity management, business intelligence, and digital innovation—enables CFOs and PE firms to drive meaningful transformation.”

Emerson earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Northern Kentucky University and an MBA from the Williams College of Business at Xavier University in Ohio.
