Gregory Mascitti, an experienced financial restructuring and bankruptcy attorney who represents companies in a wide variety of industry sectors, has joined McCarter & English as a partner. Prominent in the national restructuring and bankruptcy community for more than 20 years, Greg is resident in the firm’s Manhattan office.
Greg represents debtor and creditor clients in all facets of financial restructuring and bankruptcy matters. Greg has also counseled chapter 11 trustees and official committees of general unsecured creditors and equity security holders in Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings. He has handled in-court and out-of-court restructurings of secured debt and strategic acquisitions of distressed assets. Greg has worked with clients in a broad range of industries, including the media, aviation, mining, real estate development, banking, technology and healthcare industries, as well as a National Hockey League franchise.
Greg also does a significant amount of work on the front-end of corporate transactions, relying on his years of experience and time in industry as director of legal affairs for a distribution company to advise clients in the drafting and negotiation of key contracts.
“Greg is equally at home handling secured creditors’ workout matters as he is representing financially distressed businesses, in both in-court and out-of-court restructurings,” said Sheila Calello, chair of McCarter’s Bankruptcy & Restructuring Practice. “He is the counsel of choice for distressed entities looking to restructure, as well as trade creditors, secured creditors, trustees, and committees seeking to maximize value in a distressed scenario.”
A former president and longtime member of the Upstate New York Chapter of the Turnaround Management Association, Greg earned his law degree from Wake Forest University School of Law. Prior to joining McCarter, he was a partner at LeClairRyan, where he led the firm’s bankruptcy and restructuring practice, and, before that, he was a partner at Nixon Peabody.
“Greg is an outstanding lawyer and an exceptional person, exactly the kind of attorney we want at McCarter,” said the firm’s chairman, Mike Kelly. “He can do virtually anything in the distressed business setting. He will be of immense value to our clients.”
