Womble Bond Dickinson announced that Donald J. Detweiler has joined the firm’s Bankruptcy, Restructuring, and Creditors’ Rights practice as a partner in the Wilmington, DE, office. He was formerly a partner at Troutman Pepper.

Detweiler has more than two decades of experience advocating for parties nationwide in complex Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases, including representing debtors, creditors’ committees, directors and officers, employees, litigants, and other parties-in-interest. He has served as counsel to Chapter 11 debtors and creditors’ committees in various sectors, including healthcare, manufacturing, retail, telecommunications, ethanol, apparel, pharmaceuticals, insurance and finance, specialty products marketing and distribution, and printing.

“As interest rates and inflation are on the rise, moratoriums have lifted, labor costs have risen, and government aid has been constrained, we believe it is the right time to expand our team,” said Matthew P. Ward, leader of the firm’s Bankruptcy, Restructuring, and Creditors’ Rights practice and managing partner of the Wilmington, Del., office. “Don is a well-respected, highly regarded, and talented bankruptcy lawyer and has worked on some of the largest high-profile bankruptcies, both within Delaware and elsewhere throughout the country. He is very well known to our bankruptcy team, and we could not be more pleased that he has joined the firm.”

In addition to his bankruptcy experience, Detweiler has successfully litigated, tried (jury and non-jury), and defended complex commercial litigation and product liability cases in the state and federal courts of Delaware. He has been ranked by Chambers USA, which noted that “he zealously represents his clients while providing a pragmatic approach,” and has been consistently recognized for his bankruptcy practice by Super Lawyers and Best Lawyers in America.

Detweiler earned his J.D. from Widener University Delaware Law School and his B.A. from Villanova University.
